Vintage stores are enjoying a major revival right now. Maybe it’s the economy that’s encouraging people to go back to their frugal, 80′s roots or maybe it’s that fact that with the globalisation of fashion it’s difficult to get anything original on the high street. Either way-vintage rocks. If you?re keen to make a statement then this is the look for you. How far you take it is entirely up to you. Whether it’s full-on 30′s glamour or 80′s neon glory there’s always something different, and since you?re doing your bit for the environment it’s completely guilt free! Here’s a secret guide to vintage/thrift shopping in Dublin city centre?
1. Harlequin-great for bags of all shapes and sizes. Accessories in general are amazing and their rail of little black dresses is a must for this time of year.
2. Jenny Vander-a little more expensive but beautiful and unique for occasion wear. This is the real deal and a favourite of John Rocha.
3. A Store is Born-only open at the weekend this garage sells beautiful cashmere, fur stoles, an abundance of silk scarves and great 50′s dresses.
4. Oxfam on Georges St has a newly opened vintage section selling some of the better bits. It’s a little expensive but try to forget it’s Oxfam and appreciate it.
5. Circus Boutique specialises in edgy, contemporary designers exclusive to Ireland but they also have amazing vintage pieces, which are surprisingly cheap. They are dotted throughout the store so have a good look.
6. All the charity stores along Georges St and into Camden Street are always chock full of cool bits and bobs for next to nothing.
So there you go, get the gloves off and eat a good breakfast. Vintage shopping and charity store shopping in particular, can be hard work but it’s definitely work the effort. Pictured above next to Harlequin is a model wearing a funky dress and accessories from Oxfam.

Thanks.. always wonder where to go when people rave about Vintage. Kerri Mc looks fab.
I went in to Harlequin for a look after Angela’s piece and they’ve some really cool stuff although it’s on the pricey side
Do you have addresses for all these shops? Harlequin sounds great.
Harlequin is on Castle Market St (out the back of Powerscourt Town house), got some great stuff. Oxfam with the vintage section is located on Georges St, come out of Harlequin turn left and you’ll see an arcade (think its Georges St Arcade), go straight through it and turn right when you come out the other end and on the opposite side of the street to the right you’ll see Oxfam. (have a look at our previous Vintage Fans post about Oxfam..)

In Cork there is this really cool bar that does a Swap Shop during the day, its not all vintage but its also not anywhere near the price that all these vintage boutiques seem to get away with charging!Plus they have a seamstress inhouse every day which is cool for 2nd hand cos you can find nice stuff that is too big/small/long…
Wow, that sounds great especially having the facility of a seamstress
