BT2 are great at introducing us to new concepts but this one has to be one of the best yet! There’s nothing worse than spending what seems like the entire day at a salon when all you want is a quick blow dry before heading out – enter dry styling! What a great idea, ‘hair styling for the girl on the go’.
Pink Hairdressing launched the concept today at BT2 Dundrum and Blanchardstown by opening Ireland’s first dry style bar. Apparently they have a full range of services listed on their bar menu including four on trend styles; modern sleek, bouncy waves, glamour braids or classic curls. Styling is expected to take no more than 20mins and prices range from €15 – €30 depending on hair length – yipee! Let us know if you have tried it. We will be testing this concept out and reporting back, all in the name of work of course!

Well girls I know it’s January so the parties have run dry and all you want to do is snuggle up and be comfy. You can still look good while doing it and it’s important to do so! I have put together two simple but effective hairstyles to send you back to the office looking sexy and sophisticated even if you’re not feeling it..

Firstly, the doughnut.
These can be bought for next to nothing in Claires Accessories and come in all different colours.
1. Put your hair into a ponytail and pull it through the centre of the doughnut.
2. Fan out the ponytail covering the doughnut and tuck the loose ends around the edges underneath, pinning out of the way and spritz with hairspray.
3. Finish with a flower or diamond clip to dress up your do for after work drinks.

Second look – the knot.
1. Pull your hair into a low/high ponytail.
2. Wrap the ponytail around your hand and pull into a knot.
3. Leaving the ends loose, pin the knot in place around the edges.
4. Define the loose ends with wax and finish with hairspray.

Ladies introducing the red bombshell for 2010…. for as long as we can remember the fashion industry has been obsessed with blondes. Yes it is said that they have more fun and make no mistake peroxide blonde and golden blonde is still ‘on trend’ in 2010, but the blondes are being told to move aside and make room for red heads. So if you are looking for a change and you want to be on trend and have the sexiest colour in 2010 red is it! It’s perfect for the cooler months and would be a great option for these winter days.

Apparently less than 2% of people are natural redheads, so you can understand where the appeal lies in its exclusivity, just think Lily Cole. The main rule to stick by if your going for a visit to your salon is have it looking as natural as possible. Remember you want to look like a natural red head! This rules out the bright copper and crimson tones, you are looking for the richly coloured and natural looking red hair. Check out Ashlee Simpson below, she can definitely pull off the red bombshell look.

‘Will it suit me’ I can hear you asking, well red hair is more versatile than you would think:
If you have freckles, (which come on most of us Irish girls do) and bronzed/salo skin than you should go for lighter reds such as neutral-tone coppers and natural gingers. This would be a perfect look for Spring 2010.
Obviously if you have pale porcelain skin, red will almost definitely glow on you and would be great for your Winter look. All you have to do is think of Nicola Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Lily Cole and if that’s not enough inspiration I don’t know what else I can say to convince you!
So Ladies go on be brave and throw caution to the wind, say farewell to your blonde highlights and say hello to a ‘fiery red hot 2010′….

Ok, so I think we can all feel winter’s harsh effects on our hair at the moment. 9 out of 10 of my clients are complaining about dull flat hair and non lasting blowdries. Unfortunately this comes hand in hand with outdoors freezing cold temperatures and indoors central heating and changing from one to the other rapidly! The answer however is not to wash and blowdry your hair more but to preserve it.

Consistantly washing your hair strips it of its natural oils which your hair needs to stay healthy so Dry Shampoos seem to be the answer to our prayers! So easy to use all you do is spray the nozzle at the oily spots, lightly massage with your fingertips and leave it in. Not only does it give you instantly clean and fresh smelling hair but it also gives great root lift and volume.
My favourite would have to be Bumble and Bumble’s range (left), they do coloured versions so you can get one to even enhance your roots while also doing all of the above. Their link above gives their range of colours and full instructions on how to use the product. Boots also sell a range called Batiste (pictured bottom left) which has been around and very popular for a long time and is very reasonably priced.
Another dry shampoo at Boots is James Brown Hair Reviving Shampoo, below.
A snippet from Boots on James Brown Hair Reviving Shampoo..
“By the end of a hard day in work clean hair can often look dull and dreary, not the look you are going for heading out for the night so bag yourself some James Brown London Dry Shampoo, just the trick for making your blow dry last longer and it also comes with an amazing signature fragrance to really freshen up the hair.
Another great use for James? Dry Shampoo is for any blondes struggling to keep up with their roots. To eliminate the dark streak that can creep up on you ever so quickly, apply some dry shampoo along the roots and blend with your fingertips. This will help blend the colours of your hair and reduce the harsh streak from the roots.”

Volumising products, do they give big hair or bad hair?
Being a huge fan of big hair I have been through them all, sprays, shampoos, lotions… So I’ve paid particular attention to three of the most popular ones to work out which one I find tick all the boxes.
Redken – Body Full Weightlifter
This product comes in any easy application plastic bottle that has a long thin nozzle for direct to the root application. I like this as it doesn’t go all over your hair, targeting the exact area you want to volumise. On a downside it’s very sticky when wet which is very bad for fine hair as your brush tends to get stuck and forcing it will lead to breakage. It did give great root lift though!
Bumble and Bumble – Thickening Spray
If this product came in the Redken weightlifter bottle it would be perfect. The only problem I could find with it would be the spray applicator, it tends to saturate the hair not just the area. However it dries soft and does exactly what it says, my hair felt thick, full and most importantly light.
Semi Di Lino – Volumizing Mousse
As far as mousse goes this is the best in my books, its lightweight, non-sticky and also great for curls. If you’re looking for an all-rounder this is it, bring on volume, embrace kinks and create curls – which are soft and touchable rare for a mousse! Oh and it smells yummy- Bonus!
