One Playsuit – Two Looks

clip-image009blake-lively-topshop-playsuit.jpg (JPEG Image, 560x474 pixels)_1268736966658

Ok, so playsuits are still as hot this season.  From Lanvin to Kate Moss (yes that’s her behind the shield of flowers!), we all enjoyed the return of the playsuit for another season at least.  There are so many different styles, lengths and designs to choose from.  I think we can all agree that the playsuit is probably one of the most versatile and flattering (translation: handy if you’ve over-indulged!) pieces a girl could ever have.

Summer bbq?  Add a cardi and pumps!  Night time event?  Killer heels and a bright coloured bag!  You can’t keep avoiding acid prints… embrace them and say goodbye to dull black shades!  While perusing the delights Penneys had to offer, I came across this fab little playsuit.  Pick one up fast as, even though they’ve just arrived, this polka dot lovely is sure to fly out – priced at €17.  Here are a couple of looks to get you started.

For daytime team the khaki, polka dot playsuit with the chunky panel cardi, priced at €44 from Oasis.   Bertie ballerina pumps at €63.16 from asos.  To finish add this weaved belt at €25 also from Oasis.

And for night time ladies…

Grab a pair of these versatile suede booties at €60 from New Look.  Add this Chanel inspired salmon pink weave detail bag at only €31.58 from asos and you are ready for action!

P.s. if you want this playsuit get down to Penneys as fast as your fake tanned legs can carry you!

Double Denim

-3

It was one of the most cringe worthy fashion moments of the 90’s when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake turned up on the red carpet in matching denim outfits.  But who was to know that they would become the muses and inspiration behind the top design houses for Spring/Summer 2010… Double denim is back with a bang, yes, wearing head to toe denim is now actually acceptable.  Attempted originally in the 80’s, where permed hair was also acceptable, then reprised by the aforementioned tween pop stars and now finally hitting the catwalk and every magazine as the hottest trend of the season!

-4-5

D&G, House of Holland, Chloe, Ralph Lauren, Jeremy Scott, all have the denim-on-denim done to perfection!  Denim jackets teamed with jeans, skirts, dresses and even hats.  But the best part of this trend is the re-invention of this classic all-American original was denim into jumpsuits, dresses and even suits.

House of Holland took denim to a new level with looks inspired by bondage and suiting, while Chloe attempted a daring dolly look with denim patchwork.  Chambray seemed to be the denim colour of the season which is a lighter than light denim-wash… this was seen on the Jeremy Scott models, while Ralph Lauren and D&G kept it retro classic with almost cowboy country inspired looks.  Lauren kept his American cool vibe he has every season, while D&G spiced up the generally casual fabric with detailing like ruffles on denim dresses and skirts and showing flashes of skin.

-8

So how can we get away with this tricky trend off the catwalk?  Well, if wearing the same tone denims in one outfit like Jeremy Scott, then break it up with colourful or tan accessories, like a belt or jewellery.  Another way to wear this look is to mix up the denims with different washes, dark, light, chambray etc.

And if you are still unsure about this look, why not opt for the safer version and wear coloured denim jeans like white or peach, and team with a plain denim jacket!  At least that way it isn’t as obvious and you are easing your way into the trend.

Get the Burberry Look for Less

Burberry Look...wow.ie - Google Docs_1268592158634

The immortal trench coat.  This seasons catwalks were awash with…. trench coats!  From laid-back neutrals and beige minimalism Burberry did it once again and managed to keep the trench coat just as popular.

The high street has been swamped with replicate versions but I think I’ve found the best and I’m even willing to share it!  Check out this New Look version.  It has the same great ruching on the sleeves, open swing skirt and fab girly sleeves!  How could you pass it by?  At €45 it is a steal and a big saving of €2,300!  Bargain of the century we think.

Get Karen Koster’s Look

-3

Karen looked fab at the Brown Thomas Beauty Event last night.  She certainly didn’t look like a girl who had just flown in from L.A.  Those of you watching her reporting from L.A. on the Oscars may remember her wearing this dress minus the sequin jacket from under the iconic Hollywood sign.

If you want to get Karen’s look then head to Karen Millen.  Ms. Koster was wearing a zebra dress at €199, teamed with a blue sequin jacket at €235 – both from the new collection.  To accessorise team the dress with a matching bag also available at Karen Millen.

Black, White and Red Hot All Over

-4

A trend that I see emerging everywhere at the moment is one that is so simple and easy to achieve but is totally classic and elegant, it is the black skirt and white/cream top. Almost all the high street stores are serving up their version of this trend, and many of them are making it easy for us by combining the black skirt and cream top into an all in one dress. The great thing is that most of us have these wardrobe staples already, so we can easily combine them with a few accessories to bring them right up to date.

The only possible pitfall of wearing this trend is that if you don’t get it right you could be mistaken for the waitress if you wear it out to dinner! To avoid this it is probably best if the top is not a collared blouse or cotton shirt. Instead go for interesting cream tops in indulgent fabrics like satin, lace or chiffon. You can have great fun with this trend by contrasting the fabrics and textures in the black bottom and cream top. There are also lots of great black and cream accessories out there right now that you can use to pull the look together. Add a string of pearls or oversized flower (yes, sorry the oversized flower hasn’t gone away) and viola, you’re ready to go. Add a red handbag or other accessories for an eye-popping contrast if you wish.

Pictured above from top left to bottom right – Karen Millen Belted Knit Dress – £99, Lipsy Colourblock Bow Dress – £45, Coast Jeffie Shirt – £70, ASOS Two In One Jersey Workwear Dress – £20.00, ASOS flower clip – €4 for pair of two, Faith Cirence Court Shoe – £60, Oasis Button Front Skirt – £40, Monsoon Pearl Bracelet – £8

Pick of the Day – Stripes

4313028875

Everywhere you look theses days there’s a celebrity sporting a blazer so imagine our excitement when we stumbled across this striped blazer at Warehouse!

It’s well priced at €97 and would work really well with skinny jeans and a tee, change it around by adding scarves or chunky jewellery or linen trousers – weather permitting!  When our summer does arrive it would work well over a white bandeau dress or with a vest and short denim skirt with high shoes.

The Brogue, have you got yours?

-4-4.jpg (JPEG Image, 196x558 pixels)_1266335318394-5

Once a gentleman’s outdoor shoe, now a staple in anyone’s wardrobe, the brogue has transformed its outlook to suit every style. The resurgence of the brogue, mainly the classic Oxford shape but the introduction of the Correspondent brogue in recent collections has proved to be a favourite.

Instead of walking in the countryside in the hardwearing leather shoe, both men and women have opted to don the brogue at summer festivals and on the streets. The now unisex shoe has become a hit with celebrities, with Alex Turner and Alexa Chung both wearing them, and also Agyness Deyn, Sienna Miller and Chloe Sevigny.

-6

How do you avoid looking like the gent that wore them in the 19th Century? If teamed with a floral dress for spring, the brogue will add a touch of androgyny to an already girly get-up, and tan brogue look best with blue jeans to set a nice contrast. If it is the male look you are channelling this season, try wearing them with high-waisted chino’s to stay on trend, or classic black trousers echoing YSL’s ‘Le Smoking’ silhouette – if the leg is not tapered however, make sure the brogue has somewhat of a heel to them to keep the elegant look. Most styles are available with a mid-heel to take office wear into night.

-7-8-9

There are many places to buy the ultimate brogue to suit your own personal style. The best place would be vintage stores, such as Wild Child in Georges Street Arcade or the Harlequin just outside it. Urban Outfitters cater for the ‘already worn’ brogue look. But also offer brand new pairs that will look perfect with their Spring/Summer ensembles. Topshop have a lot of different styles on offer, from classic tan to patent black, and come with a reasonable price tag. Office has both a classic brogue version and a reworked ankle boot type that combines both styles excellently. Whether it’s tan, patent or two-tone with tweed or studded, be sure and exude your inner masculinity whilst power-walking through the streets with a new air of exuberance.
