One for the Guys: Invigorating Shave Gel

I, as a beauty therapist, am fanatical about skincare and Dermalogica in particular.  Love it, love it, love it!  Their range has something for everyone and I recommend it to all of my clients.  My power of persuasion is so good, I have even got my caveman of a hubby to try out some of the mens range, and to my disbelief, he loves it!  As long as I bring the products to him, and he doesn’t have to enter the uber feminine enviornment of a salon, then he is happy to do as I say and use what I want him to use.

His favourite product is the Invigorating Shave Gel.  He much prefers it to his old regeime of Gilette Shaving Gel.  He says it gives him a very close shave, it leaves his skin feeling super fresh (probably down to the tea tree and clove flower extracts!), and he knows that it’s much better for his skin than any of the supermarket products.  He would give this product a rating of 8/10, compared to Gilettes 6.5/10!

He did also try a product called Daily Clean Scrub from Dermalogica.  He has since told me out straight that he “does not see the point in it!”.  It is meant to be used before you shave to prepare your skin for shaving and help lift up the hairs.  But, as we all know men ‘just don’t see the point’ of spending more time than they have to looking after their skin, so I say the quicker the products are to use, the better!  I should be happy that I got him out of his Gilette rut in the first place – AMAZING!

This product is priced in the region of €23.

Smells Like… ACQUA DI PARMA – COLONIA

ACQUA DI PARMA

Were you ever at a foreign airport and ‘whift’ in a most sophisticated scent that was as clean and steely as the men and women who wash their aristocratic fingers in bowls at the Ritz Monaco?  You think ‘… if I ever had that fragarance, my whole life would open like a sparkling white door onto Park Avenue’s Easy-Street’.  If your daily quest is to be an out-of-the-box sophisticate, Aqua Di Parma may just be your new Summer scent!

avagardnercary

This 90 year old fragrance contains Sicilian citrus, lavender, rosemary, verbena, Bulgarian rose, sandalwood, vetiver, cedar and ylang-ylang; it begins clean and sharp with pungent citrus and verbena.  It’s lasting strength is great and turns into something equally clean and marvelous into the early evening.  Keep in the fridge so you can splash it around you cold, it will be bracing and life affirming all Summer long.  Ava Gardner, Humphrey Bogart and Carey Grant were no fools.   Available only at Brown Thomas.

Product Review – Dove Men Care Range

Dove MEN+CARE_1269292612790

Yes, it’s that time again when we like to make the boys feel included!  We were recently sent some of the Dove Men Care range to test which included an antiperspirant and roll on deodorant and a face and bodywash (all in one wash).  As this is a mans review please expect minimal use of adjectives and ‘to the point’ points!  Actually, isn’t that what we like most about men, direct and no time wasting?

Dove are probably far better known for their women’s range and how they market it, so it will be interesting to see the ad campaigns for men.  Will they stand around in speedos talking about how they are comfortable with their man boobs and in grown toe nails… ugh – what a thought so early in the day, my apologies all!

So, starting with the all in one face and bodywash – it was tested as just the bodywash.  Apparently it is just the same as most washes and smells nice!  This wash didn’t leave the skin feeling dried out.  All in all a fairly positive vibe for the wash.

Moving on to the antiperspirant.  This was very well received and got the all important thumbs up, which I’ve been told is difficult to achieve as normally changing deodorants can cause sweating.  Bigger brands have tended to be a let down in the past.  Another plus was the smell.  All these positive comments were followed closely by the point that it wasn’t tested under any serious vigor!

And finally the roll on deodorant.  There was an instant reaction to this in the sense that it didn’t even make it out of the wrapper – not a fan of roll ons then!

All in all boys this product was a hit.
