Product Review – John Frieda Weather Works Style Creme

Product review: John Frieda Weather Works Style Sealant Crème

This cream promised to provide ultimate protection against style ruining weather conditions, but living in Ireland, we have to think rationally.  Sometimes we can’t even step outside the door without our rain gear, so I doubt a cream is going to banish the need for a brolly.  But, it does promise to protect against the dreaded frizz inducing humidity and it also gives u.v. protection, so a great holiday bag essential me thinks.  I did however get to try out this product on one of those precious sunny days that we had last week.  It was a particularly hot and heavy day, and my hair is naturally wavy and prone to frizz anyway so god knows I need this miracle product.

So I washed and towel dried my hair as usual and evenly distributed two pumps of the cream through my hair.  It felt light and creamy, but spread really well without any stickiness.  I then blow dried my hair and quickly ran the straightener through my locks to tame any unruly waves.  I had a busy day ahead of me (visit to the doc, grocery shopping, shopping for baby clothes etc) so off I went about my business.  My hair felt smooth but it wasn’t weighed down by the product.  Any split ends seemed to be smoothed down and by the end of the day I was still frizz free.

Yippee!  This product is a lighter formula than the original frizz ease serum, and is just perfect for us girlies with naturally wavy hair.  Also available from this range is the weather proofing shampoo and conditioner, and it is advisable to use all of the range together for maximum results.  Big smiles all round!

Beautiful Beach Hair

blonde beauty on beach

Ever wondered how those gorgeous models get that fabulous sun kissed beach blonde hair?  Balayage is a hair colouring technique thought to be originally from Paris in the 1970’s.  The word ‘Balayage’ is French for ‘sweep’, a reference to the way this technique is performed.  It is designed to create very natural-looking highlights which grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root, like a normal colour or full head of mesh.

Apparently many stars and models use Balayage, and the good news is a lot of urban salons, such as Peter Mark, now offer this service.  We were told when hair is coloured with the Balayage process, the highlights are painted on with a special fan brush by hand in a sweeping motion which moves from the base to the tip of the hair, but never up to the root.  The result is said to give a sun kissed, natural look.  You can choose more or less highlights, depending on the result you are after. It is not only suitable for blondes, but can also be used on brunettes or red heads – let us know if you have tried this out, is it too good to be true?

Straight down the line…

Hi girls? I just have to say how excited I am to be part of the wow.ie team.

What a great girlie site, so up to the minute, so informative and sooooo addictive! I’m going to make it my duty to keep you up to date on all the latest hair fashions and fads….

As winter is here our soft bouncy summer curls are being replaced by hair strengtheners. Unless you are lucky enough to be blessed with naturally curly or wavy hair straight hair is the way to go.

Rain and wind are destructive when it comes to volume and bounce as it leaves hair lank and flat, so put away your tongs and bring out your GHDs.

As everyone knows using strengtheners every day is hair suicide, so here are a few tips to keep your silky winter tresses healthy and sleek….

Always use a heat protector before straightening. Molton Brown do a great one which is light and weightless.

Never hold your straightener on your hair for any length of time, it is not necessary, just don’t do it!

Tame any frizzy or flyaway hair with serum, it also gives a great shine. My favourite is Redken Glass Look, its non-greasy and a bottle will last you forever. The whole range of John Frieda Frizz-ease is also great and very affordable!

An Upstyle You Can Do At Home…

Jennifer Garner upstyle

Well girls, Christmas is fast approaching which means parties galore, so I thought I would give you a dig out – in the hair department anyway!

As most of us are too busy to have the pleasure of getting our hair done here’s a pretty party style thats so simple to do in the office….

Jennifer Garner in 5 simple steps

Step 1: When hair has been washed leave to dry naturally!

Step 2: Leave out top section and secure the rest of the hair into a loose low ponytail

Step 3: Backcomb the ponytail and pin loosely with grips, not too structured, leave it loose and slightly messy.

Step 4: Backcomb top section and smooth it back to meet ponytail pinning in place, this creates volume so the top doesnt sit flat.

Step 5: Pop on a hairband and push back so the backcombing creates a beehive effect. Blast with hairspray – only as we?re trying to keep this look unfussy and effortless.

How to Wear a Head Scarf this Summer

-1

It is hard to find the perfect hat to wear during Summer time, especially while holidaying. The two basic options of peaked cap or wide brimmed hat don’t give us much opportunity to stand out from the crowd or accessorise in the best way possible. There is, however, another option that will leave your head sheltered from the sun while making you the most fashionable diva at the pool! I’m talking about Head Scarves. These cheap and space saving accessories are available in so many colours and styles that you won’t have any trouble finding one to go with whatever outfit you choose.

Now of course I have been inspired in my discovery by the latest Sex and the City Movie. In one scene SJP wears a beautiful turban with her peach Halston Kaftan Dress. Now I’m not brave enough to wear a turban but I found that the right headscarf, tied the right way, can be just as effective and less likely to get you asked if you’ve just flown in from Abu Dhabi!

-4

So where to start, well first you need to locate a nice scarf. The problem is that many scarfs that are widely available are long rectangular scarfs (like the one seen below from Monsoon), but in order to achieve the right affect you really need a square scarf that is folded diagonally to produce a triangle. Not to worry, if you buy a long rectangular scarf, you can double it over and then fold over a piece at the end to produce a square, then fold diagonally to make a triangle from this. Then simply wrap the longest part of the triangle around your forehead, bring the edges of the triangle around to the back tightly and tie.

-3-2

You can leave your hair flowing down underneath and add a few soft curls with a curling tongs for a nice affect ala SJP or you can tie the scarf under a pony tail and then wrap what is left of the scarf around the hair.

To finish off the look you can add a nice brooch to the scarf close to one of your ears. But if you wear one of these don’t expect to get much relaxation by the pool. You will be constantly bothered by admiring girlies asking where you got yours.

Create THE Must Have Hair Style This Summer

blake_lively

John Frieda have been updating us weekly with hair trend reports for Spring/Summer 2010, which they noted from the runways at London Fashion Week.  This week think of Gossip Girl Blake Lively who is this seasons IT girl for desired looks sporting tousled locks, move over Jen!  Here’s what the experts had to say on recreating this look yourself…

Unstructured curls – are big news – loose and natural, random textures – an ‘undone’ look.  This curly look is soft and moves away from the very overdone Hollywood curled look – Spring/Summer is relaxed and about lazy days and warm weather, not the glamorous siren look of the Christmas party season.

Wash your hair using volumizing products.  Next prepare washed hair with a curling spray/product for the desired look.  Then, blast dry the hair to get rid of the heavy wet, followed by tossing the head upside down to achieve the loose curled look.  Follow this by diffusing the hair in sections using the diffuser application on your hair dryer.  If necessary use a tongs to create further loose curls, adding a thickening hairspray so that the hair holds its shape.

How to Create the 2010 Bob!

danii-minogue-pic-getty-387234632

John Frieda had front row seats at all the major catwalks this season and have been bringing us a ‘how to’ on the latest trends from the world of hair.  Today’s lesson is on bobs!

Bobs are in again for Spring/Summer 2010, looser and longer with a fluid bottom and not so bluntly cut – think more of a ‘grown out’ bob then Danni Minogue’s sharp cut of Autumn/Winter 2009.

2010-bob-hairstyle-2

How to:

To create the look, prepare your hair by washing choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.  It’s also a good idea to choose from a range suitable to different hair colours to get the most from your locks.  Next, apply a small amount of frizz ease or smoothing gel onto soaking wet hair, then using a natural bristle round brush blow–dry hair into a smooth straight finish, leaving some natural bounce and texture in the hair.  Give a small spritz of hair spray with a flexible hold for help with holding the style in place.

All hair styles are moving away from anything with too much work, the look is glowy and natural and hair extensions are a definite no!  Gemma Arterton, Bond girl below, showed us how to work this trend at a recent movie premiere.
