The fashion world are hailing Marc Jacobs an innovative genius for introducing the bunny ears to the fashion world… but they’ve been around for a long time, so where exactly did he get his inspiration from? There is of course the infamous Playboy bunny costume introduced by Hugh Hefner in the 1950’s and, instantly associates bunny ears with sex appeal.

Then, of course there is the return of the Cadbury’s Caramel Bunny, who’s new look and dress was designed by Top Brit Designer Giles Deacon this year. It is also being debated whether Maison Michel came up with the idea first or not? He had made lace headpieces of bunny ears and mouse ears too, and Marc admittedly came across the idea accidently when he saw someone with a large ribbon in their hair resembling ears.. So when Marc Jacobs’ Fall collection for Louis Vuitton came out this year (pictured bottom), and his models paraded the catwalk with bunny ears, was this fashion history in the making or a copycat idea?

Regardless of who thought it up first, as usual, celebrities are the first to take on this outlandish trend, no shocks that Lady Gaga and Madonna were one of the firsts to wear them in public. But now uber cool Olsen twins and singer Lily Allen have been seen taking on the trend too. I do think this look is actually really cute… but I really can’t see myself walking down Grafton street donning a pair of animal ears just yet? However, I also remember everyone initially laughing at leggings, skinny jeans, shoulder pads and structured skirts so maybe, just maybe this too will become known as “wearable”. Topshop have already begun to challenge the trend and have come up with their very own versions of slightly smaller headbands, so a little more normal, but I am still yet to see anyone actually wear them!

Before you read this post I would hide your credit card from yourself!!! A good friend of mine sent me a link for a great shopping site in America, www.overstock.com that also ships to Ireland. Now thanks to my so called friend I will have a frightening credit card bill next month!! You’ve got to check it out, it has everything from designer clothes, shoes, jewellery, household items, you name it they have it. Remember, if you are shopping on line from the States for crimbo pressies now is the time to do it, in order for deliveries to make it over by the 25th!
Here’s just a snippet of what’s on offer…

Tommy Hilfiger women’s down-filled jacket that will keep you warm on the coldest of days €60.43 available in green, brown, navy and black.

There is a huge choice of boots available, here’s a pair of comfy slouchy flat boots suitable for everyday wear available in brown, black or cognac only €35.03. These boots in particular would work so well with skinny jeans or with a casual short skirt and opaques.

And a my final quick pick is this grey belted sheath dress by Calvin-Klein for only €49.45, perfect for the office, again team it with opaques.
So ladies get shopping and let us know what bargains you bag yourselves!

Oh my god, how gorgeous is this silk shirt dress by Celine. The multicoloured trims really set off the chocolate colour silk along with the waste being nipped in by a drawstring waistband. The dress also has pockets on each hip and a breast pocket. It was retailing at €1,290 and now you can snap it up for a mere €258 giving you an 80% reduction!!
theOutnet.com is the brain child of those behind Net-a-porter.com. They sell designer womenswear and accessories globally at reduced prices and promise authenticity on every item sold. They boast an ‘encyclopedic range of designer brands’. Watch out for their ‘Pop-up Sales’ which are themed designer sales for limited periods and their ‘Going, Going, Gone Sales’, the new way to snap up designer labels at irresistible prices – ‘watch prices drop as the clock ticks’.

The only problem is a lot of the stock seems to be sold out and not always listed as sold out leading to huge dissapointment! For example a Nina Ricci coat reduced from €1,390 to €417, a pair of gorgeous skinny white Miu Miu jeans for only €54 or a cute D&G pinafore dress at €82!! There are so many fantastic designers on this site including Matthew Williamson, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Missoni, Anna Sui and many many more. If you have any events to go to this summer it’s well worth having a look at this site. Also, they have a great range of designer beach wear with fantastic reductions on bikinis, tunics and kimonos. This Diane Von Furstenberg bikini is available to buy at €56.
This Chloe crepe bubble mini skirt is silk and has a pocket on each hip and pleat detailing. It’s been reduced from €544 to €163.20 giving you a massive 70% off. The three quarter length artic blue cotton and linen cocoon coat is also by Chloe. Details include cuffed sleeves, concealed buttons, vented back and two welt pockets to the front. You can now purchase this coat at 50% less than the original price of €432 for €216! So theOutnet.com is the place to bag yourself a bargain.
