Street Style – Celebrity Style

CIMG1410

I was lucky enough to attend the Karen Millen 2010 press event this morning and boy are we in for a treat.  Expect a beautiful soft colour palette and accessories with a high end look…. we’ll bring you more on that later.

Enter Sonia Lennon – and enter she did in serious style!  Sonia looked so good she reminded me of A-lister Kylie Minogue with her petite frame and funky ensemble.  This photo does not do what she was wearing justice, trust me – photographer I am not!  Sonia was rocking this seasons colours of yellow and green along with bejeweled shoes to DIE FOR, not forgetting the obligatory tote.  Her hair was pinned up in a this seasons tossed manner but still looked groomed.  Big thumbs up to Sonia for her style and obliging me with a picture :)

Pre-Oscars Celeb Party

-5-6

Come out from under your rock if you haven’t heard all the hype about the Oscars!  Yesterday saw celebs gather at the Grey Goose pre Oscars party which took place in Soho House in West Hollywood last night.  We will report back on all the style from the Oscars, for now take a look at who was getting warmed up at the pre Oscars party….

-7-8

We start with Natalie Portman in a cutesy mini pleat skirt and black peep toe shoes.  Not feeling the jacket Nat, sorry.  How amazing does Eva Longoria look with her sleek hair and perfectly fitting shift dress and this seasons must have nude shoes.  Anyone recognise Guy Pearce?  The specs and shaved head threw us off the scent at first but we reckon this look actually suits him.  Madge doesn’t always get it right but on this occasion she got it spot on.  We love the coat, the shoes and the choice of nail varnish, thumbs up if you’re reading Madge!

British actress Carey Mulligan rocked in a tux style blazer and boyish short hair coupled with a distinct lack of  jewellery and nude nails.  When you look this good with short hair you don’t need to bother with the rest!  Jennifer Lopez as always looked stunning and groomed to within an inch of her life.  What we wouldn’t give to have her make-up team on hand 24/7.  As for hubby Marc Anthony, well, let’s just say he looked as good as he could.

Meeting Super Model Agyness Deyn

-1

Aisling Cullen of Sherbet Stars blogazine met with Agyness Deyn. Aggie pictured back stage at New York Fashion Week.

While backstage at Alexander Wang, I got the chance to talk to über model Agyness Deyn who has fast become the fiercest model in the industry. Agyness has appeared on the front covers of Vogue UK, US and Italia, and has been the face of Burberry’s fragrance, The Beat and Jean Paul Gautier’s Ma Dame fragrance, replacing Drew Barrymore.

Hi Agyness. How many shows are you working this season in New York?

I have no idea. I have to check in with my agent every day. I don’t keep track as it’s so hectic.

Which shows are you most looking forward to this Fashion Week?

Every day is an experience and I love every minute of it.

Have you any good parties lined up for this week?

It’s my birthday on Tuesday! I will probably go out with friends for some karaoke.

Which is your favourite Fashion Week and why?

I love New York because it’s home to me but London is great too as I get to see lots of friends.

What is the best way to kill time in between fashion shows? There is a lot of waiting around for shows to start…

Yeah, there is. I like to chat to new people and I know a lot of the photographers and journalists here so I catch up with them.

Where is your favourite place to hang out in New York?

I really like Freemans Restaurant. It’s in the Lower East Side. It’s a very chilled out place to go to.

Do you know what shows you are working at for London Fashion Week?

I have no idea yet but I am definitely flying out for the shows!

I was at the Fashion for Relief show last night and I saw you take a tumble… (Agyness fell twice)

(Laughs) Oh my god, so many people have asked me about that today! I really don’t know what happened, I just fell. The shoes were 7 inch heels by Burberry and I can’t explain it, I couldn’t keep my balance.

Well I thought you handled it with dignity and grace! Thanks Agyness!

The Olsen Twins Debut The Row at New York Fashion Week

-1

When I said to some of my friends that I couldn’t wait to see the Olsen twins new collection, I started to get sideways glances and raised eyebrows at my taste in fashion. The Row (the name of the Olsen twins brand) consists of beautifully cut pieces that have a way of flattering every curve on your body and exude a simple chicness.

The show was held in an intimate venue in an art gallery on the west side of Manhattan. The collection consisted of mainly black clothing with two looks in white. The tailoring was superb and had a luxurious feel and echoed the style of Givenchy. Both Anna Wintour and Carine Roitfeld (French Vogue) turned up to support the twins and there were some heavy hitting fashion buyers in the front row.

-4

Love them or hate them, the one thing about the Olsen twins is that they have style. I have been buying The Row for the past two years and their debut show confirmed that they have a great eye for fashion.  Image of the girls backstage, not sure which one is which!

Fashion outdoes Music at the Brits

-4

It’s a given at red carpeted events that celebrities dress to impress and this years Brits were no different. The dresses and outfits certainly overshadowed the music that was performed on the night that included duets from Alicia Keys (in a dazzling black pointed shoulder mini) and Jay-Z, Florence Welsch and Dizzie Rascal, an outrageous rendition of ‘Dance in the Dark’ by Lady Gaga and a mix of Cheryl Cole’s ‘Fight for this Love’ and ultimate dance anthem ‘Show Me Love’

-5-6

Lady Gaga is of course on top of the list for her awards get up. With an extravagant head piece and lace covering her face, she strolled up the red carpet in towering heels and a layer-cake white number which she exhibited with arms posing horizontally outward. Lily Allen channelled a gothic look in a black Chanel dress adorned with a red lace collar. When collecting her Best British Female award she changed into a sailor inspired number but her orange wig caught all of the attention. She insisted that it was for disguise reasons so the camera would not be able to pick her out of the crowd.

Florence Welsch of Florence and the Machine donned a gold vintage inspired corset dress. It was a very brave choice for the icy weather on the night. She too had a costume change when accepting the award for Best British Album which the gorgeous Tom Ford presented to her. Not unlike Lily’s red carpet dress, the asymmetric black satin dress with black lace set off her fiery mane beautifully as she gracefully accepted her award.

-8-7

There seemed to be gothic darkness in the air at Earls Court as Pixie Lott also had a black lace number on. Alexandra Burke seemed to melt into the red carpet with a. Fellow X Factor winner Leona Lewis looked more like Beyoncé than herself in a metallic silver dress with bubble gum pink shoes- very Sasha fierce.

Sack The Stylist Britney!

britney-spears-grammys-500x632

Britney thankfully ditched the losers and ‘hangers on’ from the last year or so which is just as well considering her mental state over the last couple of years.  The only person she obviously forgot to get rid of was her dire stylist! She attended the Grammys in little more than a black swimsuit covered by black net… sorry lace! The designer description for this atrocity is as follows: “a black long sleeve lace dress with a black body suit (I’m sticking with my swimsuit description) by Dolce & Gabbana”.

Now I’m trying to put this in a nice way but how could Britney‘s thighs have been comfortable and not red raw from rubbing against the lace?!  In all fairness any friend/mother/sister/brother/boyfriend blah blah… should have told her that the outfit was not exactly slimming or suitable for her figure. With all her personal aides at her side someone should have stepped in and suggested trying a different stylist. Let me know what you think?

Gross Grammy Moments!

BE WARNED - Gross Grammy Pics Lay Ahead!

I hope you are not about to eat your lunch before looking at these pictures, my apologies if you are!

Below I have put together some pictures from the Grammy Awards that will make you wince with embarrassment and pain! Lady Gaga was doing her impression of some sort of animal, which one I will leave to your imagination!

91012_gagagrammy_122_478lo-550x674

…..well, well, well or as I was thinking ouch, ouch, ouch. I just don’t get why ‘it’ had to be out there waving at everybody! All I can say is her beautican must have been busy before the show with her waxpot! We all know that she loves to shock with her fashion statements but that doesn’t mean she has to throw her ‘bits’ around so unashamedly. My sympathies are with the fans in the front row! I’m all for her excentric dress sense and I love that she tries really quirky things, but let’s not lower the tone too much or she might have to have the ‘Lady’ extracted and ‘Dirty’ put in. After seeing these pics you’ll probably be glad to see the ‘back’ of Lady Gaga…. oops that’s not much better.

Another celebrity that couldn’t keep her ‘mini mouse’ under wraps was Pink

amd_grammy_pink

Again, I just think some areas are better off not on show! Is it me? Am I getting old? Or do I just have a sense of morality?? Surely if you have access to top designers they can come up with something great to wear that can also still leave you with some dignity? This is actually the same skintight suit that Pink wore during her tour so it’s actually not even specifically designed for the Grammys! Well in my opinion there’s only one way to describe the sparkly ‘mini’ and glittery boobs …ooh what is it again, oh yeah……..TRASHY!

That’s it ladies, feel free to skip your next meal after looking at this post!

Underwear Outerwear

-4

Ever since Madonna donned her Dolce and Gabbana cone bra, or Carrie Bradshaw swanned around NYC in what was debatably lingerie a lot of the time, the female nation (and of course male nation too) have been obsessed with lingerie on display! So it’s no wonder that Dior’s Couture (below) and Summer Collections are influenced largely by the delicate design of lingerie.

-5-6

The Dior Couture Show Winter 2009 was originally inspired by the old photographs of Christian Dior dressing his models in the traditional French salon, where he previewed the collection to his clients. This is where the half-dressed effect came about; the couture collection has flashes of corsets, stockings, bras and knickers, and although there is a distinct 1950s’ style to the clothing, he brings the exposing of garments through in a very contemporary way.

-7-8

He also brought this lingerie inspiration through to his ready-to-wear Spring/Summer collection (above); it is in a much more subtle way, with delicate sheer fabrics, deep silks resembling nightwear slips and lots of lace.

-9

Then, of course, there was the “Under Cover” story by the Italian photo duo Coppi Barbieri for V magazine (above), styled by one of my favourite stylists Bay Garnett , with an extremely provocative and arty take on displaying garters and under-things to the extreme!

-10

Other designers were more suggestive in their influences, with corset detailing appearing on tops, sheer fabrics and laces adorning many outfits and subtle flashes of flesh. The short shorts or high waited pants returned to the catwalk too this season, showing that it’s not only Lady Gaga trumping this look!

-11

Celebrities like Daisy Lowe, Sienna Miller and Taylor Momsen are the people leading this trend off the catwalk! Taylor Momsen’s style is very grungy/heroin chic and just like Blondie back in the ‘80′s, she is championing this half-dressed, rolled-out of bed look… whenever she is performing, she is wearing some sort of underwear as outerwear or vintage slip dress. Some celebrities who have been channeling this underwear outerwear look for the past few years, in the worst possible way would be Jodie Marsh and Katie Price… whatever you do, do not copy their attempts!

-12-1-13-3

So what about us real women…will I get sniggers and jeers if I go to my local pub in a cropped brassiere worn with my jeans, or my bra showing through a sheer top? Well I can assure you that, no, I didn’t walk out of my house in a bra. There is a very fine line between what is acceptable and what is not… looking like an extra from ‘Pretty Woman’ is not!!! However, there are ways for you to infuse this trend into your wardrobe. Try layering; wear a cropped brassiere like the ones available in Topshop under a sheer or lacy bra, or for those of you a little less adventurous, you can do this same look with a bodysuit under, so there is no flesh on display. Go for a lacy body suit for an extra lingerie effect! I have seen some gorgeous young girls doing the crop top style with high-waisted trousers, and hey if you have the body and confidence to do this, go for it! I don’t think I’ll be recommending wearing knickers out to anyone though… even former style-setter Sienna couldn’t get away with that look!

Megan Fox for Armani

-1

-2

It has finally arrived… the much-anticipated campaign for Armani featuring Megan Fox!

Ever since we heard Victoria Beckham had been shunned in favour of a younger, hotter version, you could already imagine all the females worldwide sighing and instantly signing up to the gym or starting that fad diet! Well, I have to say all that worry was for nothing… okay granted she is still and always will be a complete hottie, there is no denying that! But to be honest, I found Victoria Beckham’s advert way sexier and more alluring and more dynamic. Maybe it was the fact that I wasn’t expecting such sensuality from Vicki B, and I expected way more from Megan Fox, the photos are bland are extremely unexciting! Either way I am not impressed with the photos which were shot by renowned fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who also shot Victoria’s campaign!

-3-3

Not only that, but Eva Mendes, who is the same age as Victoria Beckham, is the face and body for Calvin Klein jeans and underwear… and her advert is also a lot more exotic and racy… she is 12 years older than Megan! So why was Victoria replaced? Well, Georgio Armani stands by his new model, claiming that “Megan is young and sexy and has a lot of spirit,” and that “Emporio Armani and Armani Jeans are all about a youthful attitude, making her the perfect choice for the collections.” In my opinion, Megan needs to step up her game before some older, more experienced woman comes along and snatches her new crown!

But no doubt the lingerie will still sell out, and men will be crashing their cars accidentally while staring at her giant billboards!
