Get the Look – Kate Moss

-1

Kate Moss is never one to miss out on parading the hottest trend and she certainly didn’t disappoint stepping out looking her usual glamourous self rocking the Spring/Summer ’10 military trend.  We’re just about over the pvc leggings craze and Kate shows just why!  Leather trousers are the item of the season to invest in.  However, do splash out a little extra on them as not only will they last you a life time, with more and more wear, they will succumb to the distressed look adding more character to your leather.

Kate has kept her look dark and mysterious and has paired hers with a plain black tee and a suede and embroidery shawl.  Embroidery has been re-introduced the last two seasons but thanks to Christopher Kane and the late Alexander McQueen they have made it a modern and glamorous welcome embellishment to any piece of clothing.  Adding colour to her ensemble Kate chose a pillar-box red clutch and has topped it all off with a pair of multiple inch Louboutin booties.

Heres how to get the look!

These leather trousers are only €88.42 (from €126.32) at Asos and with delivery only €4 to Ireland you’d be carzy to say no.  These are definitely the best priced leather trousers around!

Choose from one of these black tees, both from Miss Selfridge. The one on the left is priced at €19 or if you’d like to glam it up opt for this sexy one shoulder top that will look fantastic with your leather trousers once the cardi comes off!  It is only €21!

This lightweight cardi is perfect for both Summer and Winter (just layer it up in winter!).  It’s a real statement piece from Reiss and the fringing detail is really doing the rounds this year.  Priced at €179 but don’t let that put you off.  I know you’ll wear this to death so price per wear means it’s a bargain!

Whether or not your trousers/leggings have belt slots, still stick this trendy belt around your waist to instantly add a little something extra to finish off any look.  It has punched hole detailing around the band, is versatile, and you’ll find it at Oasis – price €25.

These open wedges are from Reiss and I can’t think of a single item of clothing they won’t go with.  I love the multiple rope detailing!  They are €189 and also come in cream.

Adding a much needed splash of colour to this look, I found this gorgeous red corsage bag.  Simply pop the chain inside or keep it out depending on whether you want a clutch or on the shoulder bag!  New Look bring us this gorgeous bag and is a steal at €15.  It also comes in black and baby pink/nude.  Take your pick!

Just add some smoky eyes, red lip colour and messy hair and you are ready!

Littlewoods go all Posh!

Steal her style from Littlewoods.ie have picked Victoria Beckham‘s Spring wardrobe as the look to re-create today.  At first you may think this isn’t one you would opt for, but hang on before you wander off into cyber space, these looks are actually easy to wear, even for us mere mortals!

Spring is definitely here and this steal her style segment sees this seasons key catwalk trends covered for the months ahead!  Eye balls ladies, pay attention – a full wardrobe update that won’t mean spending your holiday fund and doing a Father Ted style caravan break!

Catwalk queen (!) Victoria Beckham rarely gets it wrong when it comes to what’s on trend.  Below are three of the designers most recent looks showing you how to get the look for a fraction of the price.

Without further a do ladies, let’s see how to recreate Vicky’s Spring wardrobe…

1. Soft spot for Polka Dots!

-2

Dots and spots are big news this Spring and a fun and flirty element to our sometimes serious wardrobes!  Mrs. Beckham was ‘spotted’ (couldn’t resist..) in this belted mac with her trademark collar up and oversized bag.  This South Double Breasted Spot-Belted Mac reduced from €59 to €39 from Littlewoods.ie is almost identical without the designer price tag!  It also comes in red.  (If spots aren’t for you have a look at this similar check trench recently seen in the window of the Tommy Hilfiger store in Dundrum Town Center)

-2

2. Leather Mania!

-3

Forever the wardrobe statement, leather is here to stay and in every form imaginable from jackets to shorts and skirts to accessories!  Colour trends for leather this season are grey, tan and of course black!  The trendy Spice Girl wore this fitted black leather jacket with stonewash skinny jeans and killer heels.  Love label have this fabulous Studded PU Biker Jacket reduced to €35 with round collar and side zip detailing.  The bleach wash stud jeans are also Love label at €59.

Littlewoods Love Label have come up with this great ‘looky likey’ Sculptured Dress at €62 with peplum style waist and side panels – all helping to create the structured look her designers are notorious for.

To Clog or not to Clog

-11

Clog – such a funny word for a funny-looking shoe.  Associated with many Eurpoean cultures but most notably the Dutch, clogs have managed to creep their way into the trends this Spring, much like the brogue has done before.  Shoes are the one thing in fashion that tend to go full circle, dating back a number of years and all of a sudden explode onto the catwalks and filter down to the streets in a matter of months.

-10-9

Once predominantly made out of wood, the clog has been tweaked since the 19th Century and has been reinvented by designers such as Chanel and Miu Miu (below).  Soon you will no longer need to learn how to clog-dance before stepping out in a pair of these wooden wonders.

-4-1-7

Karl Lagerfeld came under a lot of criticism when he styled his models for Spring/Summer 2010 in custom made clogs with the Chanel logo encrusted onto the familiar bronze studs that attach the linen to the wooden sole.  But anything Vogue praises tends to become an instant hit, and when Alexa Chung sat cross legged on the cover last month donning a pair of these Chanel (below left) clogs, it has been all that fashionista’s can talk about.  She admitted herself that they are quite difficult to walk in, especially with tights, but since when has fashion been practical?  Louis Vuitton pictured right.

-8-3-5

With an array of fabrics to choose from, such as linen, leather or suede, clogs are set to be this seasons ‘it’ shoe. Try a pair of Miu Miu’s sheepskin lined ankle boot clogs, or stick to the traditional silhouette but with a patchwork twist, the chunkier the heel the better.  And it doesn’t have to have a designer stamp, high street stores such as Topshop (below left) and River Island (below right) have imported their clogs straight from the Netherlands (well, from their factories, but who knows, they could have one in Amsterdam). Not to be mistaken with the extremely comfortable crocs, these new takes on the traditional comfortable clog are far from clumpy and frumpy as they have once been described.  So, you have to ask yourself, are you a cloggy?

Tory Burch & Sonia Lennon Launch Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

-7

There was a great vibe today at Brown Thomas, as the strikingly beautiful New York designer Tory Burch was in town to launch Fashion Targets Breast Cancer‘s limited edition tote bag.  Tory is so teeny weeny petite and very unassuming, in fact she looked awkward with all the attention as the camera men went snap happy instructing her on how best to stand.  This event was hosted by our own tiny and uber nice Sonia Lennon.  It was great to see the crowd that had gathered for such a worthy cause especially as 100% of the proceeds go directly to Action Breast Cancer, (of the Irish Cancer Society), and Europa Donna Ireland.

The leopard print tote is definitely one to put on your must have list and at €45 it won’t break the bank.  In fact it’s not even considered a ‘hand bag purchase’, officially you are donating to a good cause!  Canadian fashion model and actress Noot Seear is the face of the campaign in Ireland.

-8

Both Sonia and Tory were rocking this seasons trend of nude shoes in style, both choices were to die for.  Tory was dressed in the most beautiful blue print dress with nude strappy heels.  Sonia opted for the denim trend wearing light skinnies, a stripy tee and a really well tailored purple sequin jacket with sleeves pulled up finishing with a GORGEOUS pair of patent platform nude shoes.

As always wow.ie were on hand to capture all those stylish ladies in attendance, of which there were many.  Almost immediately there was a queue winding it’s away around the second floor with teams of people purchasing the bag of the moment.  The bag is on sale in Brown Thomas and BT2 stores.  Trust us, you want this bag!  Two important pieces of information on the images below, H&M ruffles – Oasis mac, need we say more?

VIP style awards…

It is the most stylish event on the Irish Fashion Calendar and the socialites and stars did not disappoint!

Taking their cue from Hollywood… the stars that got it right on the night kept the dresses simple and elegant, accessories to a minimum and barely there makeup.

You’ll remember from The Oscars, that bangles and chandelier earrings were the must-haves for jewellery, while statement necklaces were nowhere to be seen, gold and neutral hues ruled the red carpet and hair and makeup was minimalist.  Well, the VIP Style Awards certainly followed suit.

-1

Total Xposure contestant and Assets model Ruth O’Neill looked beautiful (it’d be hard for her not to!), the dress reminded me of the paired back subtlety of Kate Winslets’ Yves Saint Laurent dress at The Oscars. It was simple and classic… if a little bit old for her.  Although it could have done with a bit of an iron before she left her house!

-2

And can we say va-va voom… Glenda Gilson is certainly no wallflower, and with her private life recently being splashed all over the press it was great to see her basically stick two fingers up to the world and dress to kill!  She looked sensational in a bejeweled red dress with cut-out detailing and won the most stylish award!  Refreshingly she really sticks to her own rock-chic style while presenting on Xpose, wearing jeans, boots, rocker t-shirts, leather jackets etc.  She is true to her own style which makes her deservedly most stylish of the year in my eyes too.

There was one big trend that a few stars picked up on, which is the underwear/outerwear trend that is everywhere on the catwalk and high-street this season!

-3-4

Sinead Desmond kept the lace overlay quite subtle and feminine, which is why she pulled it off superbly, and with a daring neckline the dress was made more exciting and reminiscent of a corset vibe.

But other guests who attempted the lace look weren’t so successful, the lace was either too dark, too much, or too heavy and they ended up looking more like they had been caught up in Spiderman’s web, than his love interest, heroine Mary Jane.

-5

Yes, there are always a few misses at these events too and unfortunately the beautiful Rachel Kavanagh was another guest who got it wrong.  It firstly was something I would expect to see on a mother of the bride, or at least someone forty+ years Rachel’s senior.  The kimono style print and matching wrap-over was reminiscent of a 60’s housewife’s nightwear, and for someone so young and pretty it was a pity to see her drown herself in this outfit.

-9-10

Anna Daly looked sensational… talk about hitting all the trends in one!  Ruffles down the train (but subtle), the gold hue ivory worked perfectly against her skin tone, and the unique butterfly/waistcoat effect on the bodice of the dress as well as the open back with jeweled spaghetti strap details, made it a statement number!  With the dress having enough detail she kept jewellery to a minimum with just one big bangle.  According to one Irish paper she had actually recycled her wedding dress for the event… well talk about recession proof and being ahead of the times!  Top marks.

-4But the star that stole the show in the style stakes was adopted Irish star, Michelle Heaton… a dress stunning enough to be seen on The Oscars red carpet.  (In fact it was nicer than most of The Oscar dresses we saw!)

The dress flowed in a teal blue chiffon with crystal cap sleeves and small crystal belt detail, she kept the accessories to a minimum and let the dress do the talking!  Her hairstyle was inspired by old Hollywood glamour, with sweeping waves and a side parting, and she also kept her makeup very natural and let her true beauty shine.  Although she arrived with her friend Katie Price, who was hounded by the paparazzi, it was Michelle’s timeless look that stole the show!

Lily in Disguise

612.jpg (JPEG Image, 306x423 pixels)_1268392005971Lily-Allen-Chanel-Cocoon-3

On the back of her recent Brit award for Best Female Artist, which she accepted whilst wearing an orange afro wig, Lily Allen has revealed that she is quitting music for the foreseeable future (two years is quite seeable but we’ll let her away with that one) in order to pursue the different pathways life has to offer.

As face of the Spring/Summer ’10 Chanel campaign, Lily joined a long list of singers and actresses who have gone before her in the hop from one business to the other, such as Emma Watson for Burberry, Chloe Sevingy for Chloe and indeed her own collection for Opening Ceremony. But what better way to hone your love for shopping by turning that talent into a business venture. Lily will channel the creative juices that were once used for gold-chained melodies to a more down to earth job, such as running a shop.

The boutique Lucy in Disguise which will be co-run with her sister, will offer customers items which they can hire rather than splurge on. She insists her ideals are politically flavoured, stating that “It’s about making fashion democratic”. Surely it’s not just a way to keep the money flowing whilst her music career is on hiatus and a way of finding use for her abundance of designer gear that has be thrown at her in recent years. “It’s about getting really nice clothes but letting people rent them for affordable prices so they can go out and feel like a million dollars and it won’t cost them a million dollars.” Let’s hope it won’t end up looking like the costume shop where that dreadful luminous wig was found.

Get Karen Koster’s Look

-3

Karen looked fab at the Brown Thomas Beauty Event last night.  She certainly didn’t look like a girl who had just flown in from L.A.  Those of you watching her reporting from L.A. on the Oscars may remember her wearing this dress minus the sequin jacket from under the iconic Hollywood sign.

If you want to get Karen’s look then head to Karen Millen.  Ms. Koster was wearing a zebra dress at €199, teamed with a blue sequin jacket at €235 – both from the new collection.  To accessorise team the dress with a matching bag also available at Karen Millen.

Brown Thomas & Xpose – Time for Beauty Event

The Xpose girls (…. & the lovely Sean!), hosted the Time For Beauty Event this evening at Brown Thomas with demonstrations from celebrity make-up artists, and experts on hand all night dishing out advice.  You could avail of having your nails done, skin care advice and make-up application whilst enjoying a glass of bubbly and canapes as the incredibly glamorous DJ did her thing.

Karen Koster came across so well and looked fab in a Karen Millen dress. Lisa Cannon is a real ‘classic beauty’ and rocked THE most gorgeous pair of nude shoes from Fran & Jane (I’m not giving any more away on those before I grab a pair!).  Sean seemed like such a sweetie, I had to do everything in my power to stop my fingers from pinching his cheeks and telling him how cute he was… facial cheeks ladies, not what some of you are thinking!

There was a great buzz in the beauty hall, a great atmosphere and people coming at you from all angles wanting to offer you advice and a chance to be made over.  Wow.ie was on hand to take snaps of those indulging in the spirit of this beauty event….

Street Style – Celebrity Style

CIMG1410

I was lucky enough to attend the Karen Millen 2010 press event this morning and boy are we in for a treat.  Expect a beautiful soft colour palette and accessories with a high end look…. we’ll bring you more on that later.

Enter Sonia Lennon – and enter she did in serious style!  Sonia looked so good she reminded me of A-lister Kylie Minogue with her petite frame and funky ensemble.  This photo does not do what she was wearing justice, trust me – photographer I am not!  Sonia was rocking this seasons colours of yellow and green along with bejeweled shoes to DIE FOR, not forgetting the obligatory tote.  Her hair was pinned up in a this seasons tossed manner but still looked groomed.  Big thumbs up to Sonia for her style and obliging me with a picture :)
