d999186e6b780061a71ffb8c93617ed2

Well.. well.. well.. have we spotted a great pick for today.  Fancy having your hair blow dried ala Cheryl Cole (sorry, Tweedy) followed by a make-up artist working her magic?  It’s one of those things we all want to do for a night out and either time or budget don’t permit.  Well, we can take care of the budget on this one, the time factor you will have to look after yourself.

We just came across boardsdeals.ie and gave a serious squeal of delight to find Dylan Bradshaw offering a blow dry and make-up for only €45!  Three things -

1. Hello – don’t you love the idea of having your hair done at Dylan Bradshaw

2. Who doesn’t dream of having their make-up done by a pro for a big night out

3. You can have both for only €45 – God, recessions can be great things!

Check it out here for yourselves, I’m already in the pot so see you there :)

Crazy Festival Fashion

Sienna Miller and Kelly Osbourne Lily Allen

There is no better opportunity to go fashion crazy than at a Summer festival! It is one of those rare occasions where you can be creative and dress as you like. You can move away from the stereotypical fashion trends and do something different and daring. Forget the rules, be rebellious and wear what you want!

Mac senior make-up artist, Neil Young says ‘Festivals are a great playground for fashion, hair and make-up. You can let yourself go and do things with your make-up that wouldn’t be appropriate anywhere else’.

Try out a neon lipstick that you would not usually dare to wear such as Barry M Hot Pink Lipstick or experiment with metallic nail polishes. The lash bar and Hairspray stock a great selection of colourful and dramatic eyelashes that will certainly highlight your eyes and make you stand out from the crowd.

Using make-up isn’t the only way to express yourself. Add outrageous colours to your hair, temporary hair dyes, hair clip-ins or wigs. Try some hair accessories at Hairspray and go crazy a la Lily Allen at last Summer’s Glastonbury Festival!

If you don’t have the time, money or energy to splash out on a new festival wardrobe, try instead to spice up your outfits with accessories, bearing in mind the bolder the accessories the better!

Customise simple shirts with interesting buttons. Team funky patterned tights with vibrant wellies. Experiment with crazy headbands. Use bold and bright sunglasses in a similar style to Sienna Miller and Kelly Osbourne at the Coachella festival.

Here is a sample of some wild accessories to give you inspiration!

Affordable Festival Fashion

-3

Mud, music and camping in fields, yes, its festival season so let’s get that wardrobe festival chic.  Heatons have just got in a great range of festival wear that as always is pocket or bum bag friendly in this case!

-4-5

We love these floral print shorts €10.00, team with a brightly coloured tank top and accessories to make a perfect festival fit outfit.  For a more flirty look you could opt for a floral top (choose from rose print top €18.00, paper flower printed vest €10.00 or ditsy layer vest €12.00) team with these cute button frill denims, a steal at €12.00, finish the outfit with gladiator or flat cuff sandals.  Add a twist to the look with wellies to become a modern day rock chick whilst being prepared for potential rain.

-6-7

No festival ruck-sack would be complete without a pair of wellies. Whether you prefer an on-style pair of black patent or a splash of colour they have a great range of wellies with prices starting at €15.00.

Finally, untamed non-washed locks on day 2 can be covered up with a trendy straw hat.  Basically you’ll find everything you could possibly need for a festival here and you won’t have to dip into your spending money as they are SERIOUSLY well priced.

Being Fashionable on a Budget

-1

We are all saving our money these days, so trying to shop for clothes we really want can come at a high price.  It sucks; I know I’m right there saving my money like everyone else.  You see something you really want, but the budget you put yourself on just won’t allow you to have it.  Basically, you’re thinking, this economy better get better fast, because I need some major retail therapy and something fashionable to wear.  Well, there is a way to be fashionable on budget and still look like you spent a fortune.  So I did some searching and found some items I think you’ll love.

-3

This first item can be found at New Look; it is a black and white striped godet top, priced at £20.  It has a scoop neck with button detailing; the stripes are wide in contrast and also this top has a back insert, which gives the top a flared look.  The long-line style gives it a playful look, pairing this with some jeans, awesome Metallic flats, priced at £16 and oversized sunglasses, priced at £10 you have a look that is easy and cheap to do, but still keeps you stylish at the same time.

-4

The next top I saw can also be found at New Look, it is prawn cocktail in colour, very pretty.  This pearl shoulder top, priced at £12, has a scoop neck and back with pearlscent beads on the shoulders.  Pair this with some Acid Wash Jeggings, priced at £18 and some Suedette Peep Toe Booties, priced at £16 and you have an outfit your friends will die for.

-5

The next look can be found at Miss Selfridge, it is a large floral cami with front functional placket, lace trim detail and floral print all over.  This top is priced at £22, pairing it with some semi-dark coloured jeans or black calf length leggings, priced at £12; you have a great Summer look at an affordable price.  Floral prints are big right now and one of my favourite looks for the Summer – you can’t go wrong with a great looking floral print.

-6

Each one of these looks can be embellished with some accessories such as a cute scarf, a rocking belt, or a pretty necklace. If you don’t like these looks, you just don’t think there you then go for something that is. If the colors are too dull for your taste, then go for something bold and bright. If loud colors aren’t your style then go for some neutrals or darks, but whatever you choose, make sure you stay true to yourself, that’s the most important thing. But, remember you can still be fashionable even in this horrible economy; you just have to search around for what you like. Being trendy and up-to-date on the latest fashions, doesn’t mean you have to go broke doing it.

Fabric Fashion Grayson Perry Style

-1

The world of fabric is something I admit to knowing nothing about, but recently I heard this great story about a new fabric design to Ireland.  Forget about Lady Gaga and check out Grayson Perry!

Grayson Perry is an artist specializing in pottery – great, I’m sure he makes lovely pots I hear you all moan.  What’s interesting about this guy is his sense of dress!  Grayson’s alter ego is Claire – yes, he  moonlights as a transvestite.  His alter ego has this self designed fabulous flamboyant wardrobe that has seen him turn his hand to fabric design at the request of fabric specialists.

Let’s just say in fashion world terms he could be compared to the likes of Peter Jensen.  His designs are quirky, some with a vintage vibe.  If you want to be noticed or are looking for something different then his designs are for you.  His designs are made using organic fabrics (100% cotton lawn) and are suitable for dressmaking and some soft furnishings.  What a great way to update your wardrobe by picking up some of his wacky fabric and having it worked as an accessory like a scarf or kaftan or go all out and have a Summer dress or skirt made up (a la above).  You won’t get more recession friendly plus you’ll have pride in wearing your own creations.   I’ll leave the fashion design to those of you with more visionary skills and opt for making a few new cushion covers!

perry500_17783tclaire

Grayson is married and living in London with his wife and daughter, not forgetting his aged but much loved cat.  The designer has included anything from knuckle-dusters, hand grenades and motor bikes in his designs.  We’ve included some pictures of the quirky artist and his fabric designs which are available exclusively from Murphy Sheehy fabric specialists, who informed us they’ve just launched their new website.  Let us know if you’ll be turning your hand to making your own pieces or heading for your local alterations center.

Sassy Swimwear Hits Next, Penneys and Matalan!!

With summer fast approaching and sun holidays being booked it’s time to get our Summer fun wardrobe together!

As always our trusty favourite Penneys saves the Summer yet again!  Thrilling us with cute play suits, flirty dresses and mega trendy hats!  They just keep on surprising us and this has definitely been their best year yet.

-1

Check out this Dior look girly dress.  It’s part of the Penneys‘ limited edition collection and is priced at €23!  Perfect for dinner at night on your hols!  It is due in stores at the end of March (get your skates on!), so come on girls, it’s all about the underwear as outerwear!

Another cutie arriving to Penneys at the end of the month is this gorgeous black floral dress (the boat hat was in at the end of Feb).  Looking much more expensive than the €18 price tag this shift dress can be worn so many different ways that you’ve already got your monies worth!  It’s on my shopping list and I’ll be pairing it with my white pumps, maybe my tan brogues or perhaps my 5inch peep-toes.  How will you wear yours?

18eoro pennys end of march

This colourful rainbow themed bikini, €10, is due in stores right now and is definitely a purchase to make!  It’s sure to grab you some attention as you walk along the beach and looks like so much fun to wear.  Be extra girly and add a cute corsage to the bikini strap.  Pennyes have a wide range from only €2 to €4!

Who knew walking on the beach could be so glam!

-2

Matalan have lotsa surprises up their sleeves for us this Summer with a fab range of swimwear in their Spring/Summer collections.  This pink satin two piece is priced at €20 and will compliment most Irish skin tones. The twisty detail on the top and bottom are just the perfect design to add to this strapless number!

-3

The Hawaiin floral bikini is another favourite (God I want/need them all!).

It is €13 and again from Matalan.  The wooden embellishments add something extra giving the illusion you are wearing this Summers big hit… a statement necklace.

Which two are your favourite?

-4

And not forgetting Next!  These guys tend to be outdone by the likes River Island and Topshop but this season they’ve excelled themselves.  With so many gorgeous items in their swimwear collection, we narrowed it down and selected the best for you to choose from.

10_SUMMER_PRESS_SWIM1

This pink bikini is in stores now and priced at €40.  It has clever ruching on the bikini top giving the illusion of a fuller chest.  Yes please!!

-6

Hello St. Tropez!  What a gorgeous, black jewel-encrusted mono-kini with a price tag of €40!! and it’s perfect for those who love sparkle.  Wear it on the beach as well as for night time drinks by slipping over a classy pair of high waisted trousers or sleek skinny jeans!  A great option for those more conscious of their tummies.

-8

It’s definitely all about the sparkle this Summer and that’s why we’ve added this lovely.  The bright yellow color is perfect for those of you wanting to show off that fab tan you’ve worked on (after all, it did take a long time lying on that hot beach with sand stuck to your face!).  It is €35 and has subtle yellow sequins on the top and also the bottoms.  So cute, how could you say no!  Yellow is also one of THE colours this season.

The immortal trench coat.  This seasons catwalks were awash with…. trench coats!  From laid-back neutrals and beige minimalism Burberry did it once again and managed to keep the trench coat just as popular.

The high street has been swamped with replicate versions but I think I’ve found the best and I’m even willing to share it!  Check out this New Look version.  It has the same great ruching on the sleeves, open swing skirt and fab girly sleeves!  How could you pass it by?  At €45 it is a steal and a big saving of €2,300!  Bargain of the century we think.
