Ever wonder what’s going on with your skin?

Internal skincare is as important if not more so than cleansing every day. Signs can appear on the skin if you are running low on a particular vitamin. If you have any real concerns consult your doctor and they can run a blood test.

Vitamin A: Dry flaky skin – Source: Spinach, cabbage, eggs, fish liver oils

Vitamin B: Cracks at the corner of your mouth, redness – Source:Raw fruit & veg, grains, liver, milk

Vitamin C: Early wrinkling & capillaries become more fragile – Source: Citrus fruits, tomatoes, raw greens, potatoes, strawberries

Vitamin E: Dry, rough, tired looking skin, toxins (free radicals) free to cause damage – Source: Leafy greens, seeds, grains, Wheatgerm

Remember, your skin is an organ, so like other organs in your body if you don’t feed it well the cracks will literally start to appear!

Any tips for breakouts on the cheeks? :(

  2. Sue says:

Hey Emma, what kind of breakouts? Blackheads, spots, itch, rash? Is it constant or occassional? Has it only started in the last while? Is it just confined to the cheeks?

  3. Emma says:

Thanks sue, both blackheads and spots. Pretty constant-none anywhere else and haven’t changed anything really..

The Overnight Clearing Gel from Dermalogica helps clear skin over a couple of nights. It’s great for unplugging tough pores and remember to only extract after a long steam.

The problem could be caused from using products that have mineral oil or lanolin as these cause a cling film effect over the skin. Look for ‘non-comedogenic’ products, written on the back. Pop in to a salon using Dermalogica and ask them for a face map, some salons do it free of charge and you can get some hands on advice.

Think back over the last couple of months, have you changed cleanser, moisturiser or make-up and you might weed out the culprit!

  5. Sue says:

Emma, you might want to think about changing your powder or blusher brush too, that could be another factor. If it’s real hair you can wash them with washing up liquid.

Sue my skin has gone from good to oily and aggravated. Having survived my teens & 20’s without any skin complaints surely now on the cusp of 30 I am not facing into acne? It is mainly on the forehead & chin and just for reference – I did the absolute dog on it over Christmas. Tell me this is a temporary upsetting of the liver….

You’re skin can be affected by moving house or job, changing your moisturiser, make-up, hormones, stress and yes if you are burning the candle at both ends that won’t help! If you’ve always had good skin though I wouldn’t blame that entirely, any of the others listed ring a bell? If so change back and drink plenty of water to flush out toxins in the body. I wouldn’t recommend you go buying acne related products just yet.

Hi Sue, what can be the possible causes of dark patches on skin. I have some dark patches on my body that have never even been exposed to sunlight,so why are they dark. Could it be a deficiency in Vitamin A and C?

  9. Sue says:

Where abouts do you have the patches? Perfumes and deodrants can cause pigmentation on the skin, would that tie in with where the marks are?

  10. Marie says:

around the stomach and back, there is just an uneven skin tone complexion on my body.

  11. Sue says:

On your next visit to the GP just show your doctor and if there are any concerns you will be referred on to a Dermatologist but it’s probably just hyper-pigmentation, however always best to get a check on anything unusual.

  12. Sinead says:

Thanks Sue. I can tick most of the boxes bar the moving house and job. Got a good exfoliater and hoping that will kick in soon.

    Hi Sue
I just got off the pill in January and now I’m breaking out all over my cheeks. Is it the hormonal changes? Should I go back on the pill? Please help!!!

  14. Acne at 24 says:

I should clarify what I mean about breakouts– hormonal acne all over, clogged pores and a little bit of dry flakes

  15. Acne Skin Treatment says:

Yes, vitiligo is an auto immune desease that can kills melanocytes permanently. But I assume you have not done your reading on the long term use of monobenzylether of hydroquinone or skin on itself? Because you are incorrect. The melanocytes are located in the Deris, the lower layers of the skin. Anything that happens in this layer is for the most part, is permanent. That is why when you get a deep wound you get a permanent, depigmented scar. When you get a superficial scratch in the upper Epidermal layer,…

my problem is that my skin b\w my lips and the chin ( the french cut region) is getting dark day by day . even though my colour is qiute fair enough?? what should i do .. plzz help..is do to some deficieny or what ??

  17. admin says:

Sometimes this can be hormonal. If you’re pregnant or taking the contraceptive pill it can cause hyperpigmentation (darker patches). Be sure to use a high, good sun screen.

  18. Sue says:

This is for Acne at 24, totally forgot to reply sorry! I would imagine this breakout is hormone related after coming off the pill and would suggest staying off the pill to give your skin a chance to balance out. It can take a few months to get back to normal. It’s hard to say though without actually seeing your skin, you should pop in to a salon/skin centre as ask for advice or mention it to your doc on your next visit.
