Extreme Fashionistas

I love extreme fashionistas… Lady Gaga, the late Isabella Blow, Katy Perry and of course Daphne Guinness; maybe it’s because I’m pretty safe when it comes to my own style? Even for a stylist, I rarely take risks… I know what I like and I stick to it! (My experimenting only comes out on the poor models I dress for shoots) So when someone like couture connoisseur Daphne Guinness steps out in the latest Alexander McQueen’s ‘monster shoes’, I just get giddy.

Officially, the first celebrity to wear the shoes in public, the queen of upstaging had the paparazzi in a flashbulb frenzy as she appeared at a red-carpet event in New York in a pair of McQueen’s crazy-shaped designs. Inspired by Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, the bizarre creations are from McQueen’s Spring/Summer collection 2010, they are made of fibreglass and measure 12 inches from ankle to sole.

Rumour has it, Daphne requested a pair made specifically for her in a metallic nude leather so they are one of a kind… if it was me, I would have gone for the butterfly print or black reptile ones from his catwalk collection… way cooler! But I guess when you are dressed head-to-toe in couture, you’ve got to tone it down somewhere! I am confused and slightly in awe of how she even managed to walk, let alone stand for pictures in the shoes!

Lady Gaga collaborated with McQueen for his Paris show, providing the soundtrack for the models to walk to… so it’s no wonder we see her trotting around in a sequin version of the shoes in her new video ‘Bad Romance’. Although she is yet to venture out in public in a pair of these bad boys… I’m sure she won’t be far behind the delightfully extreme Ms. Guinness!
