So we’ve seen pictures of her topless in St.Tropez, punching and kicking paparazzi, walking the streets in her pyjamas, being thrown out of the Glamour awards and with bright pink hair? and now we get to see Lily Allen in pictures for the new Chanel cocoon bag campaign. Confused? Me too.
We’ve seen her style change over the past year from a chavtastic girl to a high-end designer connoisseur? usually decked out head-to-toe in the French designer. Showing little or no style imagination, she’s practically already a walking advert for Chanel, so she’s clearly been angling for this job from day one.
Karl Lagerfeld isn’t one usually to get things wrong? he’s a fashion genius after all? so for him to make such a faux-pas as to have a girl as class-less as Lily Allen as the face of an internationally acclaimed label is enough to make Coco turn in her grave.
Even Cheryl Cole, who came from a council estate background, has grown into a classy and beautiful woman and a great role model? surely she would have been a better choice for Chanel if they were trying to appeal to a wider customer base?
With such superstars as Kate Moss, Jerry Hall, Claudia Schiffer and Nicole Kidman previously the faces of Chanel? Lily Allen is no doubt at the bottom of that food chain. Perhaps the recession is hitting the big-timers like Chanel too and they couldn’t afford a bigger budget so had to settle for songstress Lily? Whatever the bizarre reason for this choice, it’s sure not to deter people from buying the Chanel bag? but it’s also certainly not going to improve sales either!

so harsh, but so funny and true
Not just harsh, wrong. The one thing that you failed to mention is that Alllen actually has talent. Cheryl, married a footballer, got cheated on, lost a load of weight and has an all right singing voice, big deal, she seems like a pleasant woman but role model? Why? She doesn’t write her own songs and she probably doesn’t choose her own clothes. Allen is no angel and indeed can be a bit of a yob but come on give the girl some credit for actually having something to say.
Neither are exactly Chanel!
Hey Aoife…it wasn’t a persoanl attack on Lily Allen’s talent or music…i actually really like her work…and you’re right …shes much more talented singer/writer than Cheryl Cole (and I meant Cheryl was a role model for the girls who come from bad run-down areas and have a bad past/history but eventually grow up to really make something of themselves)…the point I was trying to make was that Chanel is such a classy label, held in such a high regard around the world. In fact it is much more than just a fashion label..it’s a piece of living history!Have you seen the new Chanel Movie and you’ll know what I’m talking about!…i just do not see how she was the best candidate for the campaign!!! If you see from the photos attached of her…she is really lacking any of the class or dignity that is associated with the brand!
