Ok, so no smoker wants to be nagged into giving up the dreaded habit. Even lecturing about how aging it is on the skin, gives you many facial wrinkles, especially around the mouth (also known as cats bump mouth! Lovely!), not to mention yellow teeth and many more undesirable smells etc.
If you are a smoker that secretly wants to kick the habit without announcing it to everyone, hence putting yourself under the immense and relentless scrutiny of well meaning family and friends, this offering from Pfizer could be of great help to you. Today, Pfizer launched a free online GP ‘surgery’ running for one week only until Friday 12th November.
How does it work?
During the online surgery, the physician will answer questions from a smoker via a private Instant Messaging conversation online. The conversation is between the smoker and the physician only – no one else will be able to view the exchange. This maintains patient confidentiality as it ensures the conversations are not available to any other party.
The online surgery will run from Monday 8th November to Friday 12th November (inclusive) at www.quitwithhelp.ie. GPs will be on hand to answer questions via a confidential 1:1 Instant Messenger service. The online surgery will be open from 12.00-15.00 and 18.00-21.00 during this week.
Give it a go, you’ve nothing to loose and nobody will be any the wiser. Good luck to anyone trying to quit, it’s not easy but so worth it. If you want a little incentive read our previous post on the damage smoking does to your skin.

If you were watching Dancing with the Stars on Saturday night you’ll have seen Alesha Dixon looking stunning in a hot sequin mini dress that’s bound to get you results on a night out! If you want to create this sexy look you’ll find the dress at Chica Boutique or at their online store chicaboutiqueonline.com.
The ‘Blair’ mini dress the glamorous judge wore will cost you €310 and is bound to sell out so hurry if you want it. Some clip in hair, liquid eye liner and an over sized pair of silver earrings and you are the complete Alesha package!
Savida have tickled our fancy again with this Sahara ruffle dress which could work for both day or evening wear. It’s due in store this week for the absolute bargain price of €28 or £24.
Jessica Simpson was spotted recently wearing a similar dress with ‘almost’ matching lipstick! Maybe give red nail varnish a miss and go for some much darker like a black or dark brown colour or even deep navy to set off the red. Go easy on the fake tan too!
All this month Brown Thomas have been running The Masters of Fashion & Beauty throughout the country in all their stores. There have been various events with well known characters from the world of fashion and beauty taking part in Fashion Fix Thursdays and Fridays and Style Saturdays. We’ve also seen a series of master classes from International designers and celebrity make-up artists, meaning we, ‘joe public’, can get invaluable advice from the experts, straight from the catwalks.
There are many events running straight through from Thursday – Sunday but, we’ve cherry picked the best events running nationwide:
Brown Thomas, Limerick
‘Style Saturday’ will actually be running on Sunday this weekend with local celebrity Celia Holman Lee presenting a Style Workshop featuring Max Mara. Head to Level 1 at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm if you fancy picking up so fashion tips from Celia herself.
Brown Thomas, Cork
Model and TV3 presenter, Glenda Gilson, will be hosting a ‘We Love Shoes’ event showing her must have foot candy for this season. Glenda will be on Level 1 in the Shoerooms at 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm and 4.30pm.
Brown Thomas, Dublin
One of our favourite Irish stylists, Cathy O’Connor, will be hosting ‘Style Sunday’ fashion workshops on this seasons contemporary and denim trends. Cathy is so approachable and a great stylist for anyone looking for help putting this seasons trends into action. You’ll find her on Level 2 at 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm.
Brown Thomas, Galway
TG4′s Blathnaid Ni Dhonnchadha is presenting a series of fashion workshops along the same theme as Cathy O’Connor’s, including denim and up to the minute trends. These workshops will run on Level 2 at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.
Now, there’s no excuse to hang about all mismatched and bored this weekend.
The prize to the ‘Most Appropriately Dressed Lady’ at the Ploughing Championships went to Roisin OBrien from Athy in Kildare and was well deserved. Roisin won a €5000 shopping spree for Littlewoods Ireland (I’m green with envy just typing that!), wearing a navy padded jacket, jeans, leather boots and cowboy hat from various high street stores. Ms. O’Brien’s look is elegant and stylishly casual looking far more expensive that it was showing it pays to accessorize right. Pictured with her is Eoin McDermott from Swords, who won a Louis Copeland suit and must have been the only man there carrying a bag!
Littlewoods have a South quilted jacket not dissimilar in style to the one Roisin wore and well priced at €60. A belted waist means you can have a shapely silhouette and still keep snug at the same time! Mix it up with different print scarves or hats as Roisin did at the Ploughing Championships, earning her a nice ‘little’ shopping spree.
Nationwide covered this on the day if you fancy watching it via RTE’s website.
As the Weather Girls sang in It’s Raining Men… have we got news for you! Awear are introducing shoes next month… wuhoo… oh, the excitement and anticipation of it all! Lacking in a shoe department was my only grip with Awear, they have everything else so spot on but always lacked footwear – not any more.
It will truly be a one-stop shop next month and we can’t wait to view the full range. Once again the lovely ladies at AWear have sent us a sneak peak of what to expect so you can plan your purchase early. Everything is bang on trend as usual and pocket friendly to boot – pardon the pun! Prices are starting at €45 for beautiful embellished ballet pumps to €149 for 100% leather boots, bring it on we say. Check out what looks like a pair of shoes robbed from Beyonce’s wardrobe above for a taste of things to come.
Speaking on the launch of the new range, A|wear Brand CEO, Annmarie Flood said “Shoes are currently the number one search item on the A|wear website & the one product that our customer has on her wishlist, so we’re delighted to be adding footwear into the A|wear portfolio this season. I’ve personally overseen the development of this collection & each pair has been bought with our A|wear girl in mind, promising to deliver on not just must have fashion statement pieces but also on quality & affordability.”
The Collection
From feathers to shearling, studs and buckle details, the A|wear footwear collection has every autumn trend box ticked. Leather ankle boots with fur detailing, make for the perfect accompaniment to denim this season or go for a full length riding boot paired with your favorite skinnies. A firm favorite with the fashion pack, the flat knee boot in leathers & suede comes in an assortment of styles with plenty of added detailing. The trend for over the knee styles also sticks around for autumn, wear with opaque tights and 60’s style belted shorts.
For the girl who likes to party, the A|wear collection is full of must have glamour pieces. Platform styles in cobalt blue, mink & cream or the vintage style sandal in silver & gold are the perfect addition to your favorite little black dress. If you like something a little more alternative, the open toe studded shoe boot in jet black and teal will definitely have you coming back for more. As well as the trend led fashion styles, A|wear is not forgetting the need for both comfort & fashion! Beautiful embellished pumps in 100% leather as well as cute courts & Mary Jane style must haves are the perfect addition to your working wardrobe.
The full footwear collection will be available in the following stores from the 4th of October, A|wear Grafton St, Henry St, Dundrum, Patrick St, Waterford, Castlebar & www.awear.com
